International Women's Day
This International Women's Day, we're thrilled to share the inspiring journey of our Group Sales Director, Katie Ridley. Her knowledge, passion and dedication to her work continue to empower and inspire us daily.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the property industry?
I didn't initially plan to join the property industry, but it's been a fulfilling journey. After working in gym membership sales and travelling for a year, I sought a career with longevity and a deeper connection to something I'd always been curious about—property. Growing up, I loved helping my nan with her paper route and peeking through letterboxes, a curiosity that led to my passion for interior design and property.
How has your role evolved since you first started?
In the past 12 years, my property career has evolved from a trainee to leading a sales division. I've gained experience in every aspect of the industry, from selling to listing and managing a team. Each step has brought me closer to my goal of advancing both my career and those around me.
Have you faced any challenges in the property industry? How did you overcome them?
My career has had its challenges, especially as a young woman in a male-dominated industry. I was often underestimated, but I learned to handle these situations with assertiveness, professionalism, and balance. Overcoming obstacles taught me that success is as much about mindset as it is about skill development, and turning setbacks into learning opportunities has been key to my growth.
What achievement are you most proud of in your career?
I'm proud of my personal achievements, but I value seeing my team grow the most. Their success reflects my support, trust, and guidance for their development. I'm also proud to be part of the Birmingham board for Lomond, where I can influence change and support colleagues in the industry.
What advice would you give other women aspiring to enter the property industry?
My advice to women entering the property industry is simple: seize every opportunity, even if it pushes you out of your comfort zone. Build your network, have tough conversations, and never burn bridges. Every interaction is a chance to grow, and the relationships you build can shape your future success.
